ERE stands for Emission Reduction Units. It is a scheme run by the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) that has applied since 1 January 2026. Every time you charge electrically instead of filling up with fuel, you save CO₂. That saving is converted into a digital certificate. Fuel suppliers are legally obliged to buy these certificates to offset their own emissions. And the revenue? That goes to you.
Exactly as you already do. Every kWh counts.
Your charging sessions are filed as ERE with the NEa automatically. No meter readings, no forms.
Fuel suppliers buy your certificates to meet their legal obligation.
Into your bank account automatically, every quarter. It really is that simple.
€ 200 to € 700 a year
The payment currently sits at around 7 to 14 cents per kWh charged.
An average EV driver charges 3,000 to 5,000 kWh a year at home. Charge 4,000 kWh at 10 cents per kWh, say, and that is roughly € 400 a year, for something you were doing anyway.
The ERE price moves with the market. Joulo tracks that market daily and sells at the right moment. You cannot file ERE certificates with the NEa yourself, that has to go through a recognised registration service provider. There are several, but Joulo stands out with full automation and low, falling costs.
Connect your charge point once and Joulo does the rest: reading, validating, filing with the NEa and paying out. No meter photos, no paperwork.
Joulo appears on the official NEa list of recognised registration service providers and is built to RED III. All processes are audit ready.
Over 125 models from 66 brands are supported, including Alfen, Tesla, Wallbox, Zaptec, Easee and Peblar, plus almost any modern charge point over OCPP. No extra hardware needed.
No waiting a full year: your revenue is transferred to your account automatically every quarter.
